1. Tournaments
Our
competitions are open to players of all ages and ability
levels. You do not need to have played before and you
can pay registration and entry fees on the day of the
event. We operate a dress code consisting of long sleeve
shirt, proper trousers (no denims or combats), proper
shoes and a waistcoat. A tie or bow-tie is optional. For
Under 15 players the dress code is not enforced however
players are expected to wear proper trousers and a long
sleeve shirt.
Men: The draw for the Men's competition
takes place a week before the tournament so you must enter your name in
advance. Email your name and contact details to
irishpool@eircom.net or text / phone 086 8476890 or
087 2684027 to enter. The entry fee is €35 per
tournament plus a €40 annual registration fee.
Competition starts on the Saturday morning of each
tournament weekend.
If
players wish to pay in advance for all 6 tournaments the
total cost of entry fees is €215 instead of €250. To
avail of this special offer the €215 must be paid in
full at the first tournament of the season.
In
addition a Plate Competition will be held at each
tournament. Players who lose in the early rounds of the
men's main competition will be entered into the Plate so
every player will get to play at least 2 matches.
Ladies: The ladies
competition commences at 7pm on the Saturday of each
event. Ladies do not need to enter in advance, they can
put their name in the draw by registering before 6.45pm
on the day of the competition. The only exception is for
the Irish Championships when ladies must enter one week
in advance. Entry fee for the ladies tournament is €25
plus a €40 annual registration fee. Ladies may also
enter the Men's Main Tour and will receive
a 2 frame start in the Men's competition. The entry fee to
enter both the ladies and mens competition is €50 which
is a €10 reduction on the overall cost for entering both
competitions.
Under 21:
The Under 21 competition commences on the Friday night
at 9pm. Players can register their names on the night
before 8.45pm. The only exception is the Irish
Championships when all players must register a week in
advance. Entry fee is €15 and annual registration fee is €40.
Under 18:
The Under 18 competition takes place on Sunday morning
at 10am. The entry fee is €10 and players can register
on the day before 9.45am. Under 18 players who also wish to play in
the Men's Main Tour pay an entry fee of €35 for both

learn the rules. The competition starts at 12 noon on

Wheelchair users & players with disabilities:
All players are welcome to
take part in our competitions irrespective of any
disability, physical or intellectual, that they may
have. At present we only offer an exclusive competition
for wheelchair users at the Irish Championships and
where there is enough interest we select players to
participate in wheelchair competitions if they are
offered at international competitions.

2. Inter County League
In addition to the six
tournaments and the Irish Championships, we also run an
Inter County League for county teams. Competition takes
place for men, ladies and under 18's on a round-robin
basis throughout the season. On the May Bank Holiday
weekend each year the Inter County Finals weekend takes
place with the top teams in each league battling it out
for the title of Irish Team Champions.
3. Qualifying for the Irish
Teams
Each year we send teams
to the European Pool Championships (usually held in
February) and the World Championships (usually in
June/July). Players qualify for the teams either by
competing at team trials or by gaining automatic
qualification (for example by winning the Irish Singles
Championship title or by finishing No.1 in the
rankings). Other players qualify if they are currently
on the team and have maintained a high average record at
the World Championships.
A number of team places each
year are reserved for players who qualify for trials.
Players are invited to participate in the trials by
finishing at the top of the tournament ranking lists at
the end of the season. Other players who take part in
the Inter County League and finish with top individual
scores are also invited to attend.
Occasionally the team
Managers in consultation with the Executive Committee
will offer a "wild card" into the trials for a player
who they feel merits a place at trials but who has been
unable to qualify for a trials place through the usual
channels. For more information about team selection
please email
irishpool@eircom.net with your specific query.
4. Dress Code
The dress code
for all players is long sleeve shirt, proper trousers
(i.e. not denims or combats), proper shoes (i.e. not
runners/trainers) and waistcoat. A tie or bow-tie is
optional. The penalty for breach of dress code is
immediate loss of a frame.
